Chanel Hangzhou Fashion Show slowly appeared at 18:00 on the evening of December 3rd, Beijing time, at West Lake in Hangzhou. Liu Wen, as both the opening and closing model, appeared in the Chanel 2024/25 Haute Couture series Hangzhou show, once again setting a new record for Asian models!
Without an artistic director, it ushered guests from a wooden boat on the lake into a misty dream show. The inspiration for this series came from Gabrielle Chanel's ebony lacquered screens. Although she never visited Hangzhou, she cherished these screens throughout her life and they brought her endless design inspiration.
The entire series incorporates Chinese imagery in an elegant and restrained way: Lesage embroidered cloud boots, Lognon accordion pleated skirts, and knitted suits embroidered with screen patterns. Every detail shows the ultimate craftsmanship of the Le19M workshop. The iconic tweed, paired with retro buttons and innovative designs, and accessories, such as pillow-shaped bags and crystal handbags dotted with stars, demonstrated the theme of travel and dreams.
Oriental-inspired designs showcasing Chanel's exquisite craftsmanship and innovation
The Chinese lacquered wooden screens and silk feasts on display at the show showcased oriental beauty and attracted worldwide attention. In this show, you can see the silver threads and elk embellishments on the garment, like the black lacquer inlaid with mother-of-pearl on the Coromandel screen. Furthermore, you can also see the patterns of flying birds and branches everywhere, and the light feathers and flowing pleats. From these garments, you can see the most exquisite workshop skills of Chanel. Meantime, it can also inject new vitality into Chanel's design through the poetry and charm of the East.
Chanel’s craftsmanship and Hangzhou’s silk complemented each other
Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel SAS, said, "In Hangzhou, you will understand what true craftsmanship is. Chanel uses the best silk, and a large part of its silk raw materials come from Hangzhou and China." At the same time, Chanel's favorite colors echo the classic colors of China. For instance, on this show, red, gold, emerald green, pink and sky blue are all tributes to Chinese lacquered wooden screens and their brilliance. What is more, silk was also very eye-catching in this Chanel fashion show. Hangzhou;s silk is also a major feature of China. It can be said that silk threads weave the unique aesthetic culture of Hangzhou, which coincides with the cherishment and admiration of the Métiers d'art series for handicrafts. What’s even more coincidental, Ms. Chanel is very good at using silk. She uses the silk to express her design concepts, and this fashion show becomes a carrier for the integration of Chinese and Western cultures.
Besides, Chanel also thoughtfully displayed some of the work details of the major workshops. Guests present were also able to do some needlework by themselves and experience some of the production processes of the advanced workshop series, which is very valuable to the garment industry. Here are about Chanel 2024/25 Métiers d'art workshop series.
Chanel long coats, luxurious and delicate, a fusion of East and West
Chanel long coats with wide shoulders are suitable for day and night, and made of exquisite tweed, satin, velvet, or decorated with floral embroidery, with a unique sense of envelopment and mystery. Coats, short or oversized jackets are paired with buttons made by Paloma Haute Couture and lined with satin. Pockets, pagoda sleeves, Chinese collars and phosphorescent braids made by Montex embroidery workshop, are all soft and smooth, exuding a delicate luster. Everywhere you look, you can see exquisite luxury and meticulous details.
Straight-cut waisted jackets, side-buttoned jackets and dress coats lined in white satin are paired with pleated skirts, as well as wrap dresses, culottes and cropped trousers. The travel theme is also reflected in bags (travel bags, cosmetic bags) and knitwear, including a jumpsuit as an inner layer of a suit, decorated with a delicate ebony lacquer screen pattern. Moreover, T-shirts, tube tops, cardigans, skirts, dresses, Bermuda shorts and trousers are made of cotton or tweed knit fabrics, showing floral patterns or two-tones, which are particularly elegant. Bags and jackets are decorated with multiple geometric pockets on the front, which have an envelope-like sense.
Lesage embroidery adorning the dress, a nod to the Chanel screen
Camellias and lotus embroideries by Lesage are embroidered on long dresses with pleats and ruffled plackets, and then extend to suits, or even cover entire pieces, paying homage to Mademoiselle Chanel's folding screens. Emerald green, pink and sky blue echo the luster of lacquerware. Gradient blue jeans are reminiscent of ripples on the lake, while black, brown and other dark tones are learned from the ebony texture of the folding screens and the velvety softness of the sky at night.
Shoes accessories with sparkling embroidery, adding brilliance to your outfit
The shoes include black patent leather over-the-knee boots and pointed loafers, as well as comfortable and practical mid-calf boots from Massaro, which are favored by Gabrielle Chanel. Some are particularly shiny because of the exquisite embroidery created by Lesage. Moreover, medals and cuffs from Goossens are inspired by the floral and fruit patterns on the surface of ceramic vessels (a tribute to the ancient Prunus plant from China) and the patterns formed by the passage of time. Hats from Maison Michel, as well as beanies and scarves, are the best eye-catching items for your overall look.
Lemarié feather exhibition, romantic and dreamy
Lemarié Camellia and other workshops create delicate pleats and ruffles, ruffled collared shirts decorated with embroidery and intarsia or lacquered lace, maxi dresses and skirts, morning veils and pajamas, and golden lace dresses that show Gabrielle Chanel's iconic charm. Meantime, that all closely follow the theme of sensuality and romance in the evening. In addition, fleece pieces, pillow-shaped handbags and cloud-shaped pearl necklaces put us in a dream-like soft world.
